The Politician's Life

They pour the oil of human blandness On a world they see as flat They hand out sticks of anodyne Be satisfied with that They slice the fat in private With a long serrated knife And feast upon the losers It’s the Politician’s Life We have walked this path so often It’s been torture by decree It’s the madness on the hilltop And the creatures in the sea I have prayed to every god I know That we should be set free But here I am still waiting For the answer to my plea The demons blonde and bloated Run their banner up the mast To distract from their many lies And dodgy dealing past If you dare to mention anything You’ll be the sacrifice No-one tells the truth here It’s the Politician’s Life We have walked this path so often It’s been torture by decree It’s the madness on the hilltop And the creatures in the sea I have prayed to every god I know That we should be set free But here I am still waiting For the answer to my plea The screaming starving subject Are the chorus to their song And dying time must coincide With another greater wrong The cruelty of misfortune Will be spun like tumbling dice And lady luck is stuck inside The Politician’s Life We have walked this path so often It’s been torture by decree It’s the madness on the hilltop And the creatures in the sea I have prayed to every god I know That we should be set free But here I am still waiting For the answer to my plea

We seem to live in a time where the worst of human inclination outpaces the good that others strive to achieve...jokers and fraudsters have their way so that their selfish lusts are satisfied, rich men get richer, and the rest of us can just get lost. Welcome to the future, folks - isn't it just great?
